1. Strategic planning
Every good strategic plan starts with a general analysis of the whole. It is necessary to know the resources that will be used and the threats that will be faced, and to plan actions for hypothetical good and/or bad situations. This allows the manager and his team to define a realistic plan of action, considering external and internal environments.
An interesting technique to help managers prepare this plan is SWOT Analysis. In this technique, strategic planning encompasses scenario analysis, helping with decision-making. When preparing the plan, the manager and his team must identify these characteristics within the project and separate them into these four options. From there, analyze the scenario presented.
SWOT allows for an analysis of the external environment in two large blocks: the macro environment and the micro environment. By analyzing these variables, managers can identify opportunities during planning, as well as threats. As for the internal environment, SWOT allows for the observation of everything that is within the institution, such as employees, management systems and daily processes. Identifying weaknesses or strengths enhances the execution of action plans.
Furthermore, it is important to define the planning that will be used for the medium and long term. This is essential to achieve results and reassess the process of achieving them. The best strategy varies according to the target audience, price and/or service, in addition to the final objective.
2. Indicator management
For any institution, it is crucial that its performance is monitored periodically. Indicators help to better visualize the results obtained by professionals, teams, sectors and the institution in general. This data can be linked to any area, such as marketing, sales, people management or customer service, for example.
For this assessment to be carried out correctly, the choice of indicators is essential. One way to choose the best option is to relate it to the desired objective. For example: if the aim is to increase the number of members, indicators related to the annual growth rate should be monitored. Other examples of indicators are: cost of acquiring members/customers, level of employee absenteeism, default, etc.
Finally, a warning: Simply monitoring indicators is not a sign of good governance. This data serves as a basis for managers to promote real changes in their day-to-day activities.
