New website: do this to avoid disappearing from Google | SiteMap 37

Post by ayshakhatun3113 »

Hello everyone, we are back with another SiteMap, your guide to digital marketing.

Last week we listed 7 essential features that companies should consider when they decide to create a new website and one of the points mentioned was SEO, that is, the need to optimize the website for search engines, a task that, as we mentioned, whenever possible should be carried out in parallel with the development of the website and not later.

But imagine the specific case of a company that already has a website and decides to redesign it or create a new one. What should it do to ensure that the history of the old website is not lost and that its positioning in search results does not drop abruptly?

HOW TO AVOID DISAPPEARING FROM GOOGLE DURING A REDESIGN PROCESS
One of the reasons for this website renewal process may be part time data the desire to optimize the new website from scratch in order to rank higher in Google results, obtain more leads and generate more business. However, what most companies are completely unaware of is the possibility that exactly the opposite could happen if the necessary actions are not taken during this transition process.

Obviously, the likelihood of things going wrong increases when the website developer is either unaware of this fact, or chooses to ignore it to avoid the work. When this is the case, the consequences can be devastating and companies only realize this later… too late .

But then, what exactly needs to be done?

1. Map the website URLs
The first thing to do is to map the URLs of the site that is going to be revamped because during the redesign process they will most likely change. It is crucial that Google and other search engines are informed of this to avoid wasting the SEO value of the old URLs.

2. Map Inbound Links
Secondly, it is necessary to map the Inbound links, that is, the links that point to the site from other sites. These links are extremely relevant and if the destination URLs change they will point to pages that no longer exist, thus losing all the SEO value they carry.

3. Implement a redirection program
Once you have mapped your URLs and inbound links, you need to implement a plan to redirect your old URLs to your new ones to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Of course, if the URLs from your old site can be replicated on your new site, this is definitely something to consider and avoids any potential issues, but often this is not possible.

4. Use Search Console
If the redesign or comprehensive renovation process also involves a domain change, it is once again important to inform the search engines of this fact, which can be done using Google's Search Console (or other search engines), where the sitemap of the new website must also be submitted.

5. Do an SEO audit
Take the opportunity to carry out a technical audit to identify any problems that may have harmed the positioning achieved by the old site. The aim is, of course, to prevent them from happening again on the new site. You should also carry out an analysis of the on-page optimization of the old site to maintain everything that is working and take the opportunity to improve anything that may not be. What really makes no sense is to ignore all the work that may have been done previously .
